Dental Implants
Why replace a missing tooth?

Whenever you lose a tooth, the biting forces change on the teeth next to the space, causing them to shift. Opposing teeth may even begin to extrude out of the socket, which means they too could eventually be lost.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.

Dental implants are intimately connected with the gum tissues and underlying bone in the mouth. The ideal  candidate for a dental implant is in good general and oral health. Adequate bone in your jaw is needed to support the implant, and best candidates have healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease.

Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. Since dental implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany bridgework and dentures. No one will ever know that you have a replacement tooth.

Invisalign®
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign® is the invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces.
Invisalign® uses a series of clear removable aligners  to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
Invisalign® has been proven effective in clinical research and in orthodontic practices nationwide. In fact, over 70% of all U.S. orthodontists are certified to treat patients with Invisalign.

How Does Invisalign Work?
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move - little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position your orthodontist or dentist has prescribed.
You'll visit your orthodontist or dentist about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

At Home Whitening
Why do teeth become discolored?

Over time, your teeth darken as minerals penetrate their outer enamel layer. This darkening can be caused by foods and beverages that stain, such as coffee, colas, tea, red wine or berries. Tobacco products, like cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco, can cause teeth to take on a yellowish brown hue. The natural aging process can also cause your teeth to darken.

We can presribe a home whitening system that will safely lighten these stains, giving you a whiter, brighter smile!

First, we thoroughly examine your teeth and your mouth to make sure at-home whitening is an appropriate option for you. We then take impressions of make models of your teeth. Using these models, we make a personalized whitening tray that fits tightly over your teeth, allowing us to achieve optimum results.

White Fillings
What are white restorations?

Until recently, silver amalgam was the material most often used restore decayed portions of your teeth, especially back teeth. Unfortunately, silver fillings can really darken a smile, and amalgam, by its very nature, can cause damage to your tooth in the long run.

Amalgam fillings absorb moisture and expand and contract with heat and cold. So, as the filling ages, it can fracture your tooth. We will then need to place a crown on your tooth to save it. Also, silver fillings often undergo metal fatigue, corroding and leaking over time. This destroys the protective seal of the filling and allows new decay to develop underneath it. This leakage can give a gray appearance to the entire tooth.

New tooth-colored options.

Dental research has resulted in the development of new tooth-colored material that are not only durable and long lasting, but attractive as well. These materials, procelain and composite resin, provide an attractive, natural look while at the same time restoring strength and durability to your tooth.

Both porcelain and composite resins are bonded directly to the tooth, restoring it to near its original strength and function. Both can be custom-colored to precisely match your teeth, so when porcelain or resin fillings are placed, they're extremely natural looking. This can really make a difference in your appearance, especially if the restoration is visible when you smile.

So if you're looking for an attractive and effective option for restoring one or more decayed teeth, be sure to ask us about the latest choices in white restorative materials.

Diagnodent

Sometimes, it's difficult for us to diagnose cavities, especially in the pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of your back teeth. The traditional way to check for cavitites was by looking for visual signs of decay on the tooth, checking X-rays, or feeling for a soft areas with a dental  explorer. However, we now have a diagnostic tool called the Diagnodent that helps us locate even the smallest amount of decay.

Diagnodent is a laser technology that scans your teeth with harmless pulses of light. When  a cavity is present, fluorescent light of a different wavelength bounces back to the sensor, which is translated to a digital read-out. In general, the higher the number, the greater the amount of decay in the tooth. When a cavity is present, the Diagnodent also produces and audible signal.

You'll benefit from our use of Diagnodent, because it helps us find decay that may have previously gone undetected. By diagnosing decay early in its development, we can prevent more extensive damage. Your restorations will be smaller and less costly, and you'll be able to retain more of your own natural, healthy tooth.

Air Abrasion

Until recently, using the traditional dental handpiece was the only way we had to remove decay from your teeth. But now, we have a new option called air abrasion that allows us to remove decay on teeth without even touching them!

What is air abrasion?

Air abrasion is a process in which a special handpiece removes decay by propelling a stream of clean dry air mixed with tiny abrasive particles onto the surface of the tooth. It is most effectively used for removal of small discolorations and stains, and repair or replacement of small fillings. It can be used to expose hidden cavitites, which we can then remove and restore with a filling material.

The advantages of air abrasion.

Air abrasion has a number of advantages over traditional techniques:

There's no vibration.
Little or no heat is generated.
There's usually no need for anesthetic, so that uncomfortable numb feeling is avoided.
We can precisely remove a minimal amount of tooth structure, preserving more of your natural tooth.
Air abrasion is a wonderful new technology that allows us to remove the smallest possible amount of tooth structure, and enables us to place strong, natural looking restorations in only a short amount of time.

Veneers
What is a veneer?

A veneer is a thin shell of procelain or plastic that is bonded to a tooth to improve its color and shape. A veneer generally covers only the front and top of a tooth. Veneers can be used to close spaces between teeth, lengthen small or misshapen teeth, or whiten stained or dark teeth. When teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, veneers can protect them from damage and restore their original appearance.

How do we restore teeth with veneers?

It takes two or more appointments to restore teeth with veneers. During the first appointment, we shape and roughen the teeth. We then take impressions of your teeth, which we use to make precise working models of your mouth. It's on these models that we artistically craft  veneers to fit the prepared teeth.

During the second appointment we clean and polish the prepared teeth. Then we use and adhesive to bond the veneers to the teeth. A harmless, high-intensity light hardens the adhesive. Once in place, veneers virtually become part of the teeth. You can use them like you would your own teeth, because the bond is extremely strong. The final result is beautiful and natural looking teeth.
